Before buying new carpet know a few carpet basics. The first thing you want to consider is the fiber. Different carpet fibers are going to handle traffic and stains differently. What type of home is this carpet for? Is this a home full of children and pets that are going to be constantly trekking across it? These are important questions to ask before picking out carpet.

Most carpet fiber is made up synthetic fibers that are created to hold up under traffic. One popular type of carpet fiber is nylon. Nylon is the carpet fiber that a large portion of homes in the U.S. use. It is a great choice because it can handle the weight of furniture and high traffic without losing its color. Nylon carpet is a wonderful choice when it comes to carpet.

Another carpet fiber that is strong and is simple to clean is Olefin. This carpet is good o use in both indoor and outdoor applications. It is resistant to mildew and since the color is added to the carpet after it is made. This helps it so hold on to its color longer.

Polyester is another carpet fiber that is gentle and soft to the touch. Stains will come right out of this carpet and it also has nice color clarity. Polyester is also a good choice when it comes to carpet fiber.

Once the type of fiber has been determined, choosing the right textures is the next carpet basics lesson. The different carpet textures include cut pile, and loop pile. Both of these carpet textures are excellent choices but they work better in different situations. Cut pile carpet has cut loops that are sturdy and comfortable. It lasts for a long time because of the way that it is twisted and cut.

Carpet basics should help with the particular carpet that is chosen. Textured plush carpet is not the best choice for a home that has a lot of traffic. This carpet will not stand up well underneath footprints from kids and dogs. Saxony cut pile carpet is the way to go when carpeting living and dining room floors. Freeze cut pile carpet is very twisted and gives a room an informal flare. Plush cut pile carpet is excellent carpet for homes that do not have a ton of traffic. This carpet is beautiful and comfortable but it does not deal well with a ton of traffic.
