Carpet Fibers

What is the difference between natural carpet fibers and synthetic? Well, natural carpet fibers can make much better carpet for a home or office. First of all, there are many qualities that can be found in natural carpet fibers that are not present in synthetic carpet fibers.

Wool is a wonderful carpet fiber that does not get as much respect as it should. Wool carpet fibers are usually found in woven carpets and it is generally a mixture of wool and nylon. If naturally stain resistant carpet is desirable, and it always is, wool is the number one choice. Wool also is a great carpet because it will not retain footprints and other indentations for long. There will be less static electricity as well with wool carpet fibers.

Animal hair carpet fibers include goat, horse, cow or pig hair. These natural carpet fibers are desirable because they have a high level of fire resistance and they repel dirt. Typically animal hair carpet fibers are combined with rayon, viscose or wool in carpet fibers. These are great blended carpet fibers to go with.

Plant carpet fibers can also be nice choices when picking out carpet. Jute and Sisal are plant fibers that were originally used in the production of carpet but not necessarily in the actually carpet itself. Jute and Sisal will are good if a carpet that is not extremely soft is desired. These are good carpet fibers to get for offices.

Coir carpet fibers are derived from coconuts. Coir carpet fibers are somewhat like Sisal so they are not that soft. Cotton is the natural carpet fiber that is used the most in carpets. Cotton, being the versatile fiber that it is, is generally a decent fiber for carpet but it stains easily and it does not release footsteps and other impressions so easily.

Silk is of course, a luxurious carpet fiber that is typically used only in oriental rugs. If silk is the carpet fiber of choice be sure that the carpet is going to be in a low traffic area. It is nice to look at and can set off the décor of any room but it must be handled with care.

Metal is another carpet fiber. The metal is blended to a finest that starts to resemble yarn. Metal is added to synthetic carpet fibers to help cut down on the static charge. Choose natural carpet fibers for the next carpet purchase.
