Carpet History

Most people take their carpets and vacuum cleaners for granted. But what is the story behind carpets and vacuum cleaners?

Imagine what life would be like without a handy carpet cleaner. Think about how difficult it would be to cut down on allergens in carpets. Consider how tough it would be to ever really get the carpet clean. The next time a vacuum is the only thing that will get the carpet clean, thank Anna Bissell.

A Michigan couple is responsible for carpet cleaners. The notion that there needed to be something better than any of the current inventions used during the mid 1800 to get the carpet clean was a joint notion. Anna was the one who was struggling to get fibers out of the carpet and Melville was the one who had the mechanical sense.

BISSELL came out with the first carpet sweeper in 1876. Since then BISSELL has been one of the leaders in vacuum cleaners. Anna and Meville Bissell ran a crockery shop in mid-1800 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. After trying her best to get sawdust out of the carpet, Anna asked her husband if there was another way to get the sawdust out of the carpet.

Melville invented the carpet sweeper and patented it is 1876. By 1883 BISSELL had a manufacturing plant and after Melville’s death in 1889, Anna became the first female CEO in the United States.

The history of the carpet sweeper has led to the production of what we know today as vacuum cleaners. The Bissell’s were pioneers in the history of carpet cleaning history. Over the years the Bissell company has come up with vacuum cleaners and deep carpet cleaners. Throughout the 1900 more carpet cleaning companies began to build vacuums and other accessories for carpet cleaning.

Carpet history spans back to a very early time in history. While it is not really clear when or where the first carpets were made, they were probably first used to cover earthen floors. Carpet history could possibly be one that spans back to a few different groups of people. Carpet history reaches back much further than carpet cleaning history.

The history of Persian rugs stretches back an amazing 2,500 years. Iran was the birth place of Persian rugs and remains a wonderful place to get luxurious Persian rugs. The Iranians took carpet, a simple housing need, and turned it into a luxury.

Persian rugs are intricate, artistic expressions that are more than just rugs. These beautiful rugs can be found in places other than the floor.
