Carpet Fleas

The majority of carpet that is purchased is already treated to keep carpet insects out of it. However, there is an off chance that carpet fleas could become a problem. Especially if there are pets in the house once carpet fleas are spotted it is wise to kill them immediately.

Synthetic carpets and rugs are great because all of them keep insects out. Carpet fleas do not cause the same damage to carpet that some other carpet insects do but they are annoying and will bite humans and pets. If there are no pets around, carpet fleas typically die after a few days. Vacuuming on a regular basis will assist in eliminating carpet fleas. Changing the vacuum bag when it is half full can be a help in fighting off carpet fleas.

Carpet fleas are very small, coming in at around just 1/6 of an inch. They are reddish brown and they generally hop from one host to another. That means they may do some down time in the carpet. However, they will not be able to sustain themselves unless they have another place to live. Namely a pet.

The worst type of carpet fleas tends to be cat fleas. They are not particular in whom they attack. Both dogs and cats can be affected by these fleas. Once carpet fleas are spotted they need to be dealt with immediately.

The problem with carpet fleas is that they are tiny and can often be missed. Pet owners and animals may experience itching without realizing that there is an organism responsible for their discomfort. The fact that carpet fleas spend a lot of time hopping further complicates the situation.

Carpet fleas produce rapidly. A single fleas may lay somewhere around 18 eggs in one day. That means that a few fleas is all it take to infest an entire home. That is why the best way of killing fleas in carpet is to start treating the entire house for flea infestation.

Unfortunately chemicals will probably have to be used to get rid of carpet fleas. Use borax as flea killer in carpets. This is not always the best way to get rid of fleas in the carpet because borax is a very dangerous chemical. Residue could be toxic to both humans and pets.

Another way to get rid of carpet fleas is to buy some of the more pet friendly products that do not require the home to be vacated.
